Central Facilities Building, Mackay

New central facilities and recreation areas for a retirement community in Mackay, Queensland.

The brief required a variety of complex spatial relationships and uses, including a cinema, gymnasium, offices, library, craft room, bar and recreation rooms, as well as the dining area, kitchen, and a central ballroom / dining room.

All principal internal areas relate to the expansive landscaping and recreation facilities with a large covered terrace and bbq areas.

The building is designed to be both an entry statement into the community as well as the focal point for all community activities.

Exploring a traditional "Queenslander" theme, the building is generous, spacious, and robust.
