Elder Entrance, Burleigh Heads

Recipient of Regional Commendation in the Australian Institute of Architects 2009 Architecture Awards.

Recipient of a Commendation in the 2007 Gold Coast Urban Design Awards.

Completed at the start of 2007, this small development features 4 luxury townhouses on a small 506sqm corner site.

All homes feature 2 carparking spaces, a bedroom / study, and a rumpus room opening to a private courtyard, with third bathroom, on the ground level. Open plan living, dining, kitchen plus deck, powder room, and laundry on the first floor with ocean views, and ensuited bedrooms on the upper floor.

Careful manipulation of spaces, forms, and materials enliven the building and create a human scale with a sense of space.

Contemporary materials have been utilised with a modern interpretation of traditional Gold Coast beach architectural forms.

"This series of 4 townhouses is cleverly positioned and planned on a small 506sqm site. Living and sleeping areas are distributed over the 3 storeys. This makes for a highly versatile dwelling that can suit a range of occupants from families through to short term student accommodation.

This scale of housing is well suited to the flatlands of the Gold Coast west of the highway. We will hopefully see more explorations of this type of accommodation in the future."

Justin O'Neill, Arkhefield, AIA Queensland Awards Chairman 2009
